When you download the file, make sure that you save it as install_animoids.exe. (Some older browsers can change the file extension when they download files.)

After you download the installer, just double click on it to start installing ANIMOIDS.

Update to the latest ANIMOIDS Program from an earlier version
ANIMOIDS comes with a Smart Update utility that can quickly update your ANIMOIDS client code. It's much quicker than downloading and installing a complete new version of ANIMOIDS.

If you overwrite your old version of ANIMOIDS with a new one then you won't loose any configuration data or any new Animoids you have created.

• 80 Mb disk space for installation.
• 256 Mb (RAM) memory
• DirectX
• Optional Internet connection for full functionality. However, full editing capability is available without the Internet.

  Memory is the most important factor in program performance. Although the program may happily run with less than 128 Mb of physical (RAM) memory, it will run slowly with lots of very long pauses. 256 Mb memory is the recommended minimum for usable performance. If you plan to work with larger models (or Movie Sets with many models) you'll want at least 512 Mb of RAM.

Sorry, Java3D does not support Windows 95.

The standard version of Java we currently deliver for Windows is for DirectX drivers only. This satisfies the majority of Windows users.

If you need Java3D with OpenGL drivers for Windows, first install the standard ANIMOIDS program. Then, from the ANIMOIDS program, click on the "Start" button in the ANIMOIDS toolbar. Next click on the "Support" link and then the "Troubleshooting" link. You'll then see a "Java3D 1.3 openGL" link you can select to upgrade your version of Java3D to the OpenGL version.

ANIMOIDS is a Java program that uses Java3D (version 1.2, or 1.3).

If you have a system that already has Java (1.4) with Java3D (1.2) then you should be able to run ANIMOIDS. It's likely that we won't have tested your configuration, but feel free to give it a try! Let us know what works or if you have questions: email.

Download Java
The standard ANIMOIDS installer (downloaded from the "Start Free Download" button above) comes with it's own copy of Java and Java3D. So, you'll have everything you need and you won't need to install any other version of Java or Java3D on your PC.

That packaged version of Java will not replace any other versions of Java you have on your PC - it will be used only by the ANIMOIDS application.

If you want to install your own version of Java then

• First install the Java (J2SE^TM) Runtime Environment itself. (Preferably Java 1.4 or later.) (Java J2SE)
• Then install Java 3D. (Java 3D)
