Commands
The cut, copy and paste commands can be invoked from the main menu, from the toolbar or by shortcut keys.

The menu and toolbar items and buttons can be seen here:

This picture also shows the standard shortcut keys for each command:

  • Ctrl-X Cut
  • Ctrl-C Copy
  • Ctrl-V Paste

Cut
In addition to permanently removing a Segment, the cut command copies the data for the Segment into a Clipboard. This allows you to cut a Segment from one Animoid, open a new Animoid, then paste the Segment onto an existing Segment of the new Animoid.

If you cut a Segment that is part of a Branch (of linked Segments), then any Segments attached to the end of the cut Segment will also be cut.

Note that you can temporarily hide any Segment with the Hide Segment on Pick command as described in the Move Points Tutorial.

Copy
The Copy command is identical to the Cut command with the exception that the selected Segment is not removed.

In both cases, the selected Segment/Branch is copied to the Clipboard.

The Clipboard data is retained for as long as the ANIMOIDS program is running.

This particular Clipboard data is not interchangeable with any other program. I.e. you can't copy an image from other programs and paste it into ANIMOIDS. (At least, not yet!)

You'll see a message in the status panel:

if the copy was successful. Or:

if you did not pick a Segment before you issued the copy command.

Paste
If you issue the Paste command when there is nothing in the Clipboard you'll see an error message in the Status Panel.

When you issue the Paste command, a copy of whatever is in the Clipboard will be added as a new Root Segment (and Branch). The new Branch will initially be positioned close to the origin. (Though you can then move the Branch with the Move Branch action.)

After pasting a new Branch you can attach it to the end of an existing Segment by using the Attach action.

When you paste a Segment from another Animoid you'll add the ancestor history of the Clipboard object to the object receiving the paste. This implies that, if you paste a Segment from a registered (e.g. downloaded) Animoid object, the registered object history will be recorded in the history section of your new object. The copyright holder of the downloaded object will therefore retain partial copyright of your new object.

You can see ancestor history data of an object using the Segment Information action.

The Paste does not clear the Clipboard - so you can paste many copies of the original Segment/Branch.

Detach
The Detach action is used if you want to split a Branch into two.

Simply pick the Segment you want detached by clicking on it. Then select the Detach selected Segment action from the Action Tree.

The selected Segment will reposition itself a little distance from it's original parent and you'll be able to move it with the normal Move Branch action.

Attach
The Attach action can be used to attach a Segment Branch to a new parent Segment.

Simply pick the Branch you want to attach, select the Attach selected Branch action from the Action Tree and then pick the parent Segment that you want to attach to. The Branch will immediately jump to the end of the parent Segment.

When you pick the Branch you want to attach, you can click on any Segment in that Branch - but the whole Branch will still be selected.

Note: if you try to attach a Branch to a Segment that is part of the same Branch you will get an error and the attach will not complete.
