Known Problems with the ANIMOIDS Client
The following are known problems with the current version of Animoids.
- 1006 When computer hibernates with Animoids running
the 3D Canvas Panel may not display until the panel is manually
closed and reopened.
- 1009 HTML Forms (e.g. email and download forms) only work in conventional
web browsers. They don't work from within the ANIMOIDS Client program.
- 1015 Some error messages from Smart Update display as HTML tags instead
of conventional text.
- 1017 If you unlock a locked, resized Action Help window then the
content panel does not resize correctly without manually resizing the window.
- 1054 Internal browser can't display the first non-code page without an manual refresh
after going back/forward from a Code pages (as of 1.2.02).
- 1058 When editing points, the highlighted points can disappear when the
'Apply' button is clicked.
- 1070 The Segment COLOR "Replace All" button action does not get recorded
in a movie scene.
- 1120 During AVI movie creation - frames can be lost for large image size.

- Object rotation in Movie Scenes now uses Spherical Liner Interpolation
- to avoid objects appearing flat on rotation.

- Movie files can be transcoded. E.g. AVI file size can be reduced by 95%.

- There are now three options for generation of texture coordinates:
Symmetrical, Linear and Spherical - using the new "Texture Mode' (Intermediate) action.
- The 'Play Movie...' menu item can now play Animated GIFs.
- New (Intermediate) "View/Edit Point" action is available to manually edit
node coordinates and texture coordinates.
- Segment end caps are now constructed with node spacings of 'equal latitude'
for more spherical appearance and even node spacing.
- Mac - can now use Media Player after recording movie.
- New error log window for displaying media format problems, etc.
- Display which media player is selected (System or ANIMOIDS) after recording movie.
- Behaviors now support two rotation modes. (Gimbal lock + normal.)

- 1121 Memory is not released after playing movie in ANIMOIDS Media Player.
- 1122 When resizing frame during 'Make Movie", 3D renderer can occasionally fail to build movie
and scene appears to run in slow motion (Java 3D bug 4701430). Workaround -
cancel movie, re-open Animoid object and make movie again
- 1123 Some Media Pack text referred to short duration movies instead of the new overlay.

- New View menu option displays unit XYZ axes on 3D Canvas.

- Camera rotation by mouse now limits XY rotation to either X or Y

Then invoke Edit, Refresh Registry... from the ANIMOIDS Main Menu.
This will speed up the creation of a new Behavior database.
- Movie Scenes support smooth translations and rotations.
- Movie Scene actions are now optimized to avoid duplicate actions
targeted for the same time.
- Movie Scenes can now often run in a special Synchronized mode
that lets them run more efficiently.
- Movie Scene control buttons are now enabled, disabled and/or highlighted
to make their use clearer.
- The Status field in a Movie Scene now changes to show
whether the Scene is recording or playing.
- Behaviors support smooth absolute translations and rotations.
- A new Reset option has been added to Behavior editing to
ensure that Behaviors are restarted correctly..
- Behavior motion for Root Segment moves is now absolute instead of relative.
Although this slightly reduces functionality it makes it much
easier to get Root Segment motion to work correctly. (Old Behaviors will
still run the same as before. You must re-edit to gain the new absolute
behavior.)
- You can now move points by dragging them with the mouse.
- The Action on next Pick field now shows the current
drag action. I.e. it shows what happens when you click and drag an object.
- A new Clear button makes it easier to clear pick actions.
- A new Behavior Database makes it possible to keep track of what Behaviors
a specific Animoid uses. This is used to support the
new Add Behavior to Selected Animoid action.
- New General Motion Behaviors have been added to support tasks
like Turn Left which can be used with any Animoid.
- New Other Actions like Edit Selected Animoid make it
easier to jump from Editing Scenes to Editing the Animoids in the scene, etc.
- The Refresh Registry task is faster since it no longer rewrites the refreshed files.
- You can now add a node point when only one triangle exists (at the edge of a surface).
- Drag and Drop sounds from the operating system to the Behavior or Move Scene
canvas is now supported.
- Drag and Drop now switches to a new edit tab if necessary. E.g. if you try to
drop a Movie Set onto an Animoid then the application will assume you
want to edit that Movie Scene and leave the Animoid.
- The Move Root Segment sliders can now adjust their scale to allow
unlimited root offsets to be made.
- Much less memory is now needed during the Edit Behavior process. This makes
editing behaviors for large objects or many stepped behaviors an easier task.
- The 3d buffer used for snapshots, etc. is now created only when required. This reduces the
chance of running out of graphics hardware memory and having to run in emulation
mode.
- New point editing commands now support removing points, removing triangles
and merging points.
- The Center icon changed from a 3d axis to a target.
- You can now abort the recording of new actions for a Movie Scene by right clicking
the Record button.
- The Save button on the Behavior Control Panel now applies any changes in the
Steps, Sec/cycle and Class fields.

- Undo and Redo are now available for many actions.
- The MOVE POINT Control Panel now shows adjustments as editable text fields.
It also displays the number of picked points and has improved help prompts.
- For convenience, we now clear any Pick Action when clearing Picked Points.
- For convenience, we now clear any Pick Action when performing action "Show All Segments".
- New Action Redraw Object is functionally the same as existing action Show All Segments.
- Keyboard shortcuts are available for many basic editing actions. Those Actions and

- 1074 Scenes do not always start when recording a QuickTime Movie - you
need to start manually (then pause) before starting recording.

- In many cases, ANIMOIDS can now use less than a third of the memory used
in previous versions. This makes the program much more responsive -
especially with Windows XP (which is particularly sensitive to large
programs).
- Much less memory is now used when loading a new 3D Canvas.
- Behaviors now use less memory when they are not being edited.
- Program startup now displays the Start panel for quicker startup and
to provide more help for inexperienced users. (The other areas of
ANIMOIDS still remember the last object edited.)
- The SCENE control panel is now locked in the first control panel
slot when editing movie scenes.
- When an Movie Scene is opened or reset, the actions at time zero
are performed immediately. This allows the scene to be ready
for viewing before the Play button is pressed.

- 1064 If you start ANIMOIDS while a previous session is still shutting down
there is a very small chance that you can lose your configuration data.
- 1066 When you delete a file from the Options Panel, the panel closes all folders.
- 1067 Character names may not get restored after downloading a Set.

- If you have Graphics Hardware problems, you can now switch to Software
Emulation mode within ANIMOIDS itself. You no longer need to reconfigure your PC.
- If ANIMOIDS crashes, it automatically switches to Emulation mode when it is restarted.
- If you display the Action Help Control Panel, it stays in first place in the Control
Panel area until it is closed.
- A new "Camera reset" button is now available next to the "Action on next pick" field.
This button centers the current object in the 3D Canvas and repositions the Camera
to its default position.
- It's now possible to rename Characters in a Set. All Characters in a Set
have unique names.

- 1055 When the Credits button is pressed, you occasionally
get a blank page displayed and need to repress the Credits button
to correctly display the credits information.
- 1056 Avoid ArrayIndexOutOfBounds exceptions when saving changes
to a Behavior that has a different number of segments

- Cut, Copy and Paste now work on entire Segment Branches - rather than on
individual segments. This, for example, allows you to copy an entire leg
from one object and paste it on another.
- A new Scale Segment action now allows you to change the scale
(make bigger or smaller) of one Segment, one Segment Branch or a complete Object.
- A new Object Motion action, Center Object on Segment, allows you
to easily move any Segment to the center of a Characters and Props picture
so that you can
rotate around it with the Camera Controls.
- Sliders (e.g. the "Rotate X" slider in the "MOVE SEGMENT" Control Panel) now
reset their scale when you select a big segment. This allows you to
create unlimited size segments.
- A new View menu option Option Panel allows you to hide the
Option Panel (to give you more canvas space for editing).
- A new Camera "Zoom" option called Field of View changes the field
of view of the camera to implement a Zoom - as compared to the earlier
Zoom which was implemented by actually moving the camera.
- The "Segment" Control Panel, which used to appear when you selected a hide
or show action, is no longer used. The hide and show actions work, as before,
directly from the Action Panel.
- A new Set Action, Center object on Set allows you to easily move all
objects on a Movie Set so that the selected object is at the center of the Set.
- To help overcome potential configuration problems, the Performance
Dialog is automatically displayed when the application restarts after
a crash. In addition, a Troubleshooting page is displayed.
- Support for OpenGL for Microsoft Windows.
